Serbian Journal of the Medical Chamber
Esteemed colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that I present to you the third issue of the Serbian Journal of the Medical Chamber for the year 2023. I am honored by the invitation of the editors of the Journal to be the one to write this editorial, which I will begin by noting that, since its inception, the Journal has actively contrib- uted to the development of the medical profession and medical science. I am especially glad to note that an increasing number of authors view the Journal as the appropriate place to present their findings.
We find ourselves in a time when the corona virus pandemic exists simultaneously with all the other preexisting health challenges, which did not cease to be present even when the coronavirus was knock- ing at our door. Such a situation has opened up new issues for our healthcare system and has highlight- ed the necessity of the medical science and profession adapting to the new times that are upon us. The Journal has actively kept abreast with these new developments from the very beginning and continues to do so. I am convinced that this will be the case in the future, as well. I am happy to see a wide range of topics covered by the published articles, because I know that this is a true indicator that the current situation is being observed from many different viewpoints, which is a prerequisite for reaching valid and useful solutions in improving healthcare.
I believe that the articles selected by the editors and reviewers to be published in this volume will catch the attention of our esteemed readers.
The editor's choice of this issue is the original research by Zorica Terzić et al., which examines the frequency of the use of anti-anxiety drugs and the factors associated with the non-medical use of these drugs among adults in Serbia. The paper presents a secondary analysis of data from the National Survey on Lifestyles - Substance Abuse and Gambling, conducted in 2014 and 2018, on a total of 7,385 partic- ipants.
The original article by Anabely Estevez Garcia et al., presents a prospective study in which the impact of anamu, moringa, spirulina and chlorella, which are routinely used in Cuba, on the quality of life of oncology patients in Serbia was evaluated.
In their original paper, Aleksandar Ristanović et al. presents the experience of their medical center with the excision of ectopically localized mediastinal parathyroid glands, which can be safely and suc- cessfully removed using the video-assisted thoracoscopic surgical approach (VATS), whereby standard surgical opening of the chest is avoided.
In their original study, Ljubiša Jovanović et al. compare the expression of the PD-L1 marker (pro- grammed cell death ligand-1) on ovarian cancer cells in cytological material, in peritoneal metastases and in the primary tumor.
Zorica Cvetković and Olivera Marković, in their review article, present the basic mechanisms of car- diotoxicity of the most important groups of antineoplastic drugs, their clinical manifestations, as well as current recommendations for primary and secondary prevention.
The review article by Jelena Janković et al. discusses the significance of adenosine deaminase in the diagnosis of tuberculous pleurisy.
Ivana Novaković et al. present a review of existing evidence on the relationship between fetal nu- trition and the development of chronic diseases later in life, through maternofetal interaction and modulation in creating a new population.
In their article, Katarina Boričić et al. review the multidisciplinary approach, as a modern approach to teamwork in health promotion, which is a prerequisite for achieving effective health promotion.
The review article by Slađana Šiljak et al. analyzes contemporary ethical issues and moral dilemmas that health workers face during the implementation of health promotion initiatives.
In their paper, Slobodan Todorović et al. provide a review of the use of negative pressure in wound therapy.
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the creation of this issue of the Journal, as well as you, dear readers, for your interest in the research and professional papers of our esteemed colleagues. This is also a good opportunity to invite all interested authors to prepare and send their contributions for the next issue of the Journal.
Sincerely
