Editorial
Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.
Dear colleagues and friends,
It is my great pleasure and even greater honor to address you with this editorial and present the final issue of the Serbian Journal of the Medical Chamber for the year 2024.
Our Journal has been in publication for four years, during which time we have faced various challenges. Sometimes these challenges were very complex and difficult and additionally complicated by unique social and health conditions in Serbia and the world. We have successfully overcome them becoming even stron- ger and prouder.
Namely, we concluded the year 2023 with an achievement in categorization as a national scientific jour- nal categorized for the first time, while we leave the year 2024 and welcome the New Year 2025 as a national journal with an M53 categorization.
We are proud of our joint effort and the fact that each new issue of the Journal surpasses the previous one in terms of quality, content and form. We believe that we will continue to follow this trend in the next year, and together we will succeed on our path of developing the Journal and its professional and scientific validity.
Just like previous issues, this issue of the Journal also presents engaging topics that will undoubtedly be of great use to us in our future everyday work.
Teamwork is an important instrument of organizational development and quality management in vari- ous medical disciplines, especially when it comes to the treatment or rehabilitation of patients with complex and difficult conditions. It is very important to determine the level of satisfaction within the team, as well as the factors that contribute to building teamwork and team performance, in terms of greater effectiveness and lesser absence from work (absenteeism). The original article written by Dr. Danijela Baščarević et al. provides us with an insight into the results of a survey conducted at the Special Hospital for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Neurology in Belgrade. With the use of a questionnaire, the characteristics of the teams related to the average number of team members, gender structure, length of service and 11 dimensions of teamwork (purpose, satisfaction, interactions, training, communication, processes, etc.) as well as the per- formance of multidisciplinary teams, were examined. Performance indicators, such as effectiveness (number of patients per team) and absenteeism (number of days of absence from work), were taken from the annual operation report for 2020.
In their original article, Dr. Lidija Šćepanović and Zoran Vujošević present the provision and dynamics of the number of nurses/technicians and their structure, in Montenegro, over a period of ten years (2014–2023), as well as positive changes in the equity of the distribution of nurses/technicians in relation to the number of inhabitants across municipalities, as compared to the previous period.
The original article written by Dr. Lejla Imamović Lerić and Dr. Indira Husić deals with a very current topic, given that social media networks are present in the daily life of almost every individual today. The authors demonstrated a significant association between narcissistic personality disorder and social media presence.
Oral health is a segment of general human health that contributes to overall physical, mental and social well-being, enabling people to eat, communicate and participate in social life without discomfort, inconve- nience or stress. The original article “Availability of preventive dental services to preschool and school chil- dren within the public health sector in the Canton of Sarajevo”, written by Dr. Amela Brčkalija et al., shows that quality and safe preventive dental care is ensured for preschool and school children in the public health sector.
Dr. Dejan Munjiza et al., in their original scientific article “The left ventricular ejection fraction and the left atrial anteroposterior diameter as predictors of acute ischemic stroke outcome”, proved the hypothesis that the enlargement of the left atrium, expressed by the increase in the anteroposterior diameter and the de- crease in the systolic function of the left ventricle, as observed by the value of the ejection fraction, predict a bad outcome in these patients.
Metacognition, the ability to reflect and regulate one's own cognitive processes, plays a key role in med- ical education by improving critical thinking, improving clinical judgment, reducing diagnostic errors, and encouraging reflective practice. Assessment of metacognitive awareness is essential for university students, as it affects their ability to manage learning and achieve academic success. Dr. Zoran Bukumirić et al. present the results of a study that aimed to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the Serbian version of the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI), focusing on its construct validity and internal consistency, they provide evidence of the appropriate metric characteristics of the Serbian version of the MAI questionnaire. As always, in this issue we also present several interesting and very instructive case reports.
Dr. Dolika Vasović et al. present the case of a 57-year-old female patient who developed ocular side ef- fects eight months after starting treatment with MEK/BRAF inhibitors, thus emphasizing the need for early identification and treatment of ocular side effects. Next, Dr. Luka Pejnović et al. present the case of a patient with penoscrotal Paget's disease, which is very rare worldwide and for most doctors it represents a big dilemma in both diagnosis and treatment. Preopera- tive diagnosis and proper surgical treatment are the adequate method for avoiding recurrence and repeated surgical procedures, which is certainly a key factor in survival.
Finally, Dr. Sveto Pantović et al. discuss the recommendations available today for the treatment of vag- inal eversion and present the case of a patient who underwent surgical treatment of vaginal eversion after hysterectomy, which includes anterior colpoplasty in combination with bilateral fixation of the sacrospinal ligament. This type of treatment is advised in the advanced stage of complex vaginal eversions. The surgical technique applied to the patient is an effective and safe method of treatment. This experience is very im- portant for many of our colleagues when treating patients with this condition.
It remains for me to wish you a happy and successful New Year 2025, both on a personal and professional level, with the hope of achieving even greater and better results together.
Sincerely
